Reflections 2018

I attended a session on how to give effective presentations . One of the key learning from the session  was to Practice talking or read out loudly in front of mirror .

My new year resolutions kind of being done . Got a pet . Life has changed for the better after he has come to our life . There is no time for boredom when he is around . He keeps everybody on toes .
Being with him feels so good . Never realized the importance of pet till we got him .
My another resolution was to read 24 books . Bought lot of books from library and amazon as well . Did read most of them . Need to count if I have reached the target .

Freedom is something which all of us aspire for . I  wish everybody has the freedom to choose and do what they like rather than be imposed by societ
Take good care of yourself  . Nothing will be good if you own health is affected .

how to write a good speech

We had a guest  speaker yesterday at Toastmasters. He was telling how to write a good Speech . He was telling the importance of content . He told remember the acronym FIP where F stands for Family, I for Interests  and P for Profession  . Having these in mind will help to have good content  .

He was also telling not to preach , teach or beseech (beg or plead) . They have to get inspired rather than we pleading them to do something .

Also the theme was small Wins . Its important to write down the small wins everyday . It gives you the confidence too move ahead .

Koode

Beautiful  movie Koode , I'm not telling this because I'm a fan of Malayalam movies , It is enjoyable, like a fairy tale.
Each character in the movie has been portrayed so well . Some insights from the movie .

- Don't be in a toxic Relationship . In this movie , Sophie s husband was alcoholic and she chose not to be in it .

-Is important to lead a good life rather than just earning .

- People will remember you even after you are dead if you are good to them .

- Its good to have a pet .

- Its equally important to help your family members rather than just outside people .

Autism

Recently was a volunteer for a session on autism in office . Don't give your kids chocolates or make them watch TV or video games . It seriously can cause more damage . Let them mingle with lot of kids.

Some more details about autism can be found over here .

Relationships continued

Recently friend was telling me , her husband doesn't give her gifts or something for her birthday and other such occasions but he is always there for her whenever she wants . She is conceiving and  he himself prepares dinner , breakfast for both of them . Seriously its not the cheesy words or gifts that matter , its being there for each other .

Relationship is worthy where you don't have to pretend and can be yourself . Any relationship where you are physically or emotionally harmed is not worth it . Relationship where you are always threatened or should lie to each other to keep peace is not a great relationship .

Its important to understand  each other before you say 'I do " . 2 day trip is worth taking  before taking the commitment .

Life learnings

Heard a line from Deepak Chopra about financial Planning  . It says never spend anything which you have not earned , It could be loans or credit card . Unless it is extremely essential , don't go for it .
Interesting article about happiness posted below .

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/life-style/relationships/love-sex/Decoded-The-formula-to-happiness/articleshow/22204486.cms

Some of the key things mentioned are .

Changing your surroundings, rather than behavior might be the secret to a long and happy life

Have a good social life ( 5 to 6 hours)

 Have  a pet.

Living with a strong sense of purpose, energized by a social network of people (the right tribe and right community) who share healthy habits such as eating wisely and moving naturally -- this interconnected and mutually supporting cluster of behaviors allows people to do the right things for long enough, and prevents them from chronic diseases such as heart attack, diabetes or cancer. Nearly 40 per cent of an individual's happiness is under his or her control, Buettner said.

Letting Go

Easier said than done  to let go . But still we can work on it. Interesting article posted below on the same . Do read it . Some nice lines has been posted down as well .

https://www.thriveglobal.com/stories/11710-when-you-love-someone-who-is-self-destructive-and-continually-refuses-help

For anyone who has ever loved someone who is addicted to something destructive (another person, drugs, food, alcohol, chaos) and continually refuses help, at some point you either have to -- as the zen saying goes -- let go or be dragged.
Letting go can feel like complete treachery, but allowing someone to encounter the natural consequences of their destructive choices can be one of the most loving gestures of all.
If you're repeatedly preventing the natural, negative consequences from arising, you're not only not helping, but you're actually making it easier for that person to engage in their destructive behaviors (i.e. enabling).

The process of letting go looks like you stepping away from martyrdom and stepping towards consistent choices to take good care of yourself and attend wholeheartedly to your own life. In doing this, you position yourself so that if/when the person you care for is ready to accept help and change, you will be there-- fully present, fully able, fully ready to help.

Poem has been posted in same site which I'm pasting it below .

TO LET GO"
{-author unknown}
To let go doesn't mean to stop caring,
it means I can't do it for someone else.
To let go is not to cut myself off,
It's the realization that I can't control another.
To let go is to admit powerlessness,
which means the outcome is not in my hands.
To let go is not to care for,
but to care about.
To let go is not to fix,
but to be supportive.
To let go is not to judge,
but to allow another to be a human being.
To let go is not to be in the middle, arranging all the outcomes,
but to allow others to affect their own future.
To let go is not to deny,
but to accept.
To let go is not to nag, scold, or argue,
but instead to search out my own shortcomings and correct them.
To let go is not to regret the past,
but to grow and live for the future.
To let go is to fear less and love more.
